Privacy Policy
Last updated: February 2026
The Short Version
Dot Journal stores all your data locally on your device. We don't collect, store, or have access to any of your personal information or journal entries. Period.
Data Storage
All your journal entries, tasks, habits, moods, and events are stored locally on your iPhone and Apple Watch using SQLite. Your data never leaves your device unless you explicitly export it.
What We Don't Collect
- Your journal entries or any content you create
- Personal information (name, email, phone number)
- Usage analytics or behavioral data
- Location data
- Device identifiers for tracking purposes
No Account Required
Dot Journal doesn't require you to create an account. There's no login, no email verification, no password. Just download and start journaling.
iCloud & Sync
If you enable iCloud backup on your device, your Dot Journal data may be included in your device backup. This is handled entirely by Apple and subject to Apple's privacy policy. Dot Journal does not use iCloud sync or CloudKit directly.
Apple Watch
Data syncs between your iPhone and Apple Watch using Apple's WatchConnectivity framework. This communication happens directly between your devices over Bluetooth or local Wi-Fi — not through any external servers.
Data Export
You can export all your data at any time in standard formats (JSON, CSV). Your data belongs to you, and you should always be able to take it with you.
Security
Dot Journal supports Face ID and Touch ID to protect access to your journal. Your biometric data is handled entirely by iOS and never accessed by our app.
Third-Party Services
Dot Journal does not integrate with any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking services.
Changes to This Policy
If we ever change this privacy policy, we'll update this page. But our core commitment will never change: your journal is yours, and your data stays on your device.
